Common Issues
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Washer won't start or power on | Power cord not plugged in, circuit breaker tripped, door not latched | Check power connection, reset breaker, ensure door clicks shut |
| No water filling | Water supply valves closed, kinked hoses, clogged inlet screens | Open water valves, straighten hoses, clean inlet filters |
| Water won't drain | Drain hose clogged, pump filter blocked, drain pump failure | Clean drain hose, clear pump filter, check drain pump |
| Excessive vibration or noise | Unbalanced load, improper leveling, shipping bolts not removed | Redistribute load, adjust leveling feet, remove shipping bolts |
| Leaking water | Loose hose connections, damaged door seal, over-sudsing | Tighten connections, inspect door seal, use HE detergent |
| Poor cleaning results | Overloading, incorrect detergent, wrong cycle selection | Reduce load size, use HE detergent, select proper cycle |
| Door won't open | Cycle in progress, water in drum, door lock mechanism failure | Wait for cycle completion, drain water, check door lock |
| Foul odors | Drain pump filter needs cleaning, detergent buildup | Clean pump filter, run cleaning cycle with affresh tablets |

Clearing Error Codes
- Unplug the washer from power outlet for 5 minutes
- Plug the washer back in
- Press and hold the "Start" button for 5 seconds
- Error code should clear if issue is resolved
- If error persists, contact Whirlpool service
Diagnostic Tests
Entering Service Mode
- Turn the washer dial to any cycle position
- Press and hold the "Options" button for 3 seconds
- While holding "Options", press "Start/Pause" three times
- Release both buttons - washer will enter diagnostic mode
- Use cycle knob to navigate through test functions
Motor Test
Tests motor operation in both directions. Listen for unusual noises and check for smooth rotation.
Drain Pump Test
Activates drain pump to verify proper operation. Check for pumping action and unusual noises.
Water Valve Test
Tests both hot and cold water inlet valves. Verify water flow and check for leaks.
Door Lock Test
Tests door lock mechanism operation. Verify locking and unlocking functions.
Temperature Test
Tests temperature sensor accuracy. Compare displayed temperature with actual water temperature.
Control Panel Test
Tests all buttons and displays. Verify all LEDs and display segments function properly.
Component Testing Procedures
Drain Pump
Check resistance: 100-200 ohms between terminals. Verify impeller rotates freely.
Water Inlet Valves
Test resistance: 500-1500 ohms. Listen for click when energized.
Door Lock
Check continuity changes when door locks/unlocks. Test switch operation.
Motor
Test windings: 2-10 ohms between phases. Check for ground shorts.
Heater
Test resistance: 20-50 ohms. Check for continuity to ground.
Temperature Sensor
Test resistance changes with temperature: 50K ohms at room temperature.
Preventive Maintenance
Weekly Maintenance
- Wipe door seal and glass to remove moisture and debris
- Clean detergent dispenser drawer
- Check for and remove any foreign objects from drum
- Inspect hoses for cracks or bulges
Monthly Maintenance
- Run cleaning cycle with affresh washer cleaner
- Clean drain pump filter
- Inspect and clean water inlet filters
- Check drain hose for obstructions
Quarterly Maintenance
- Inspect and clean door seal thoroughly
- Check leveling feet and adjust if necessary
- Test all cycles and functions
- Verify proper water temperatures
